Former chief economic adviser Arvind Virmani has been appointed as a full-time member of NITI Aayog, according to an official notification.
Mr. Arvind Virmani was Senior Economic Advisor at the Ministry of Finance (2007-2009).
“The Prime Minister has approved the appointment of Shri Arvind Virmani, Founder, Chairman of the Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare as a full-time member, NITI Aayog with immediate effect and until further notice, according to the same terms and conditions as applicable to Full-Time Members of NITI Aayog,” the Cabinet Secretariat notification reads.
He was a member of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy from February 2013 to August 2016.
Until the end of 2012, he was Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in Washington DC, representing India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
