The Department of Income Tax has launched a mobile application where taxpayers can view and request to correct any discrepancies in the Annual Information Return (AIS) so that they can rectify it or calculate their tax liability accordingly .

Taxpayers can use the application to view their information related to tax deducted at source (TDS), interest, dividends, stock transactions, tax payments, income tax refunds and other information including GST data and foreign remittances available in AIS.

“The taxpayer also has the ability and flexibility to provide feedback on the information displayed in the app,” the finance ministry said in a statement released Wednesday.

The taxpayer can access the information by registering on the application by providing the PAN number, authenticating with the OTP sent on the mobile number and the registered email on the e-filing portal. The app is available on Google Play and App Store.

The app will provide improved taxpayer services that facilitate compliance and further reduce the scope for tax evasion or litigation.

Earlier this month, Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) Chairman Nitin Gupta said the department had retrieved 68,000 tax returns for electronic verification for the 2019-20 tax year, as information provided by the Annual Information System (AIS) did not match. with the returns filed.
