India has seen more than 72% of Rs 2,000 banknotes withdrawn deposited or exchanged in banks so far, a month after the start of withdrawal, CNBC TV18 reported on Friday, citing sources.
On May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it had decided to withdraw the Rs 2,000 banknotes from circulation.
The central bank has asked everyone to deposit the Rs 2,000 notes in their accounts or exchange them for notes of other denominations at any bank branch by September 30, 2023.
Depositing into bank accounts can be done in the usual way, without any restrictions. The exchange facility for Rs 2,000 banknotes commenced on May 23, 2023.
